EFS Develop Additional Retail Space For Go Outdoors

Go Outdoors, the UK’s biggest outdoor stores asked EFS to help them to create additional sales areas at one of their largest stores in Cardiff. With retail space commanding an absolute premium in rents, making the best use of every available area inside and outside of the store is vital for additional profitability. Working with the B38 group, a nationwide property and facilities management company, we were asked to replace an old unsafe area of wooden flooring covered in filthy Astroturf. This old and very dangerous area had previously been condemned as totally unsafe causing a number of trips and falls to customers, additionally due to birds, nature and the elements the visual imagery was poor. Following a number of site visits, meetings and discussions with B38 and Go Outdoors we recommended our Temp-A-Path® product as the best solution. It provided the green colour of the previous Astroturf; it also provides an ideal non slip washable surface whilst also being hard wearing in all elements of the weather. We commissioned new bespoke stock in green from a UK manufacturer; in total over 1,300m² was delivered to the Cardiff store. During installation it was apparent that due to the site not being a uniform area the Temp-A-Path® would need to be cut to shape prior to laying in situe, in addition due to the possibilities of heat expansion between the joints, the tiles would also need to be firmly fixed with screws into the concrete base. This we felt would provide a safe working sales area for the tents to be securely fastened without blowing away in high winds and lifting the flooring. Finally we finished the edges of the new sales area with 4 tonnes of pea gravel for an aesthetically pleasing finish. Jeremy Simpson – Business Development Manager of EFS said, “This new business opportunity allowed us to plan, manufacture and install Temp-A-Path® within in a new arena for us. The overall requirements were complex but we managed to overcome the difficulties as they arose.” He added “even though there were some issues with the expansion of the product over time, we managed to provide a solution and then we were able to develop a solution with the assistance of a local university in Leicester. This will allow us to build upon the success of the current Temp-A-Path product with future manufacture.”
